On the northern boundary of the King Country, Te Kuiti is a small rural service town. The town promotes itself as the “sheep shearing capital of the world” which calls upon its agricultural heritage.
The name Te Kuiti comes from Te Kuititanga, literally meaning “the narrowing” or “the valley” which reflects the landscape of the area. The valley is rich with limestone deposits and steep hilly land. The region is often wet in winter and dry during late summer, perfect for raising stock
