To be a Safe Workplace

The staff of Marakowhai are a small, experienced and passionate crew who make health and safety a priority in their daily lives. New Zealand has strict health and safety requirements, especially for work environments such as our isolated farms, we attempt to go beyond these requirements.

All contractors and visitors to the farms are required to sign in and are made aware of the risks, hazards and rules on the farm. Staff are certified in First Aid should an accident occur, this is essential knowledge given the remote nature of our farms. Additionally a ‘working alone’ plan has been developed to keep stockmen safe while working only with horses and dogs in the isolated corners of the farms. Further to this, a buddy system has been developed to train new staff about the land, animals and work utilising the vast experience of our accomplished stockmen.

Technology is now finding its feet on our farm as staff are able to use a farm management application to keep the main office up to date with any issues or changes that arise.
